Initial Mockup
An Idea Is Born...
Over the course of my career, I noticed how many people buy a blank notebook to prepare for a new role (I've done it for every new job I've started too). The trouble is that a blank page gets disorganized fast. The information comes at you quicker than you can structure it, and within a couple of weeks the notebook becomes a stack of meeting notes instead of a map of where you are. That's especially true for anyone starting their first office or professional job, or for anyone changing careers or industries.
In 2021, I set out to build the notebook I always wished I'd had. After eighteen months of work — talking with other Learning & Development professionals, and refining it against twenty years of onboarding new hires — I landed on the I-OTRA model: an individual-centered framework that organizes your first 90 days around the four dimensions every new role asks of you — your Organization, your Team, your Role, and your Ambition. My goal back then is the same as it is now: to help people walk into a new job feeling grounded, prepared, and quietly confident.
